Share a Street Story
Do you know the story behind a Winnipeg street name? Community members are invited to contribute historical information, personal memories, or photographs related to Winnipeg streets.
These contributions help expand the project and preserve the local knowledge connected to the city's public spaces.
Submissions may include:
- the origin of a street name
- historical events connected to a location
- community memories or stories
- photos of streets, signs, or landmarks
Community Outreach
To invite public participation, posters and QR cards were shared in community spaces around Winnipeg. These materials encouraged residents to contribute stories and historical knowledge about local streets.
Community outreach helps connect local knowledge with the Mapping Winnipeg project and encourages residents to take part in documenting the city’s history.
Supported by the CANConnect Micro-grant Program
Mapping Winnipeg is supported by the CANConnect Micro-grant Diversity Program, funded by the Canada Service Corps (CSC) at Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and administered by the GLOCAL Foundation of Canada.
The program empowers Canadian youth, particularly underserved youth, to initiate creative civic engagement projects across the country.
Through micro-grants, mentorship, and digital civic training, participants are supported in developing projects that promote civic awareness, democratic literacy, and community participation.
GLOCAL Foundation of Canada
The GLOCAL Foundation of Canada develops and implements programs that promote civic and democratic engagement, youth resilience, and inclusive community participation.
Through mentorship and training initiatives, the organization supports young people in creating projects that address local or regional concerns while encouraging informed civic participation in Canada.
By supporting youth-led initiatives across Canada, GLOCAL aims to help build a more informed, engaged, and inclusive society.
